Easter!

Easter Saturday starts with the annual Desert Hills Easter Egg Hunt at the middle school down the street. During the week before Easter, the moms fill 12 eggs for each of their kids, tape them shut, put them in a Wal-Mart sack, and drop them off at the organizer's house (usually Shaneen Mitchell). Then, Saturday morning everyone brings a dozen donuts or a drink, and we feast before the hunt starts. I didn't realize until this year that the donuts and chocolate milk are the main attraction for my kids. It's a fun little tradition and we enjoy doing it.

Sunday afternoon is when the real fun begins with lunch at Grandma Wanda's. It's generally a pot luck, but we're always told "don't worry about the food, just come!" So we just show up and have a great lunch under Grandma's car port until it's time for the easter egg hunt at Bob and Wendy's (just down the road a piece.)

No eggs in this field, but our little buckaroo, (Jack) enjoyed a bareback ride with his dad.

Maddi would only dare touch the horse from the safety of her father's arms. Much like her Grandma Sherrie, Maddi prefers to watch from afar when horses are involved.

Katie's "horse" hangs out in the front yard of Grandma Wanda's.

The easter egg hunt at Bob and Wendy's is so amazing because of the sheer number of eggs involved and the fact that they are all well hidden among the clumps of spring grass, fresh mint, and an occasional cow patty.

Jack's take is limited only by the size of his basket. He won the biggest bunny this year, what a treat!

Katie: I found four (holds up 5, then 10 fingers), this many easter eggs and put them in my basket and then I ate them all.

One of our favorite parts about Aunt Wendy's is going to see all the animals. Bob and Wendy have chickens, turkeys, peacocks (peahawks according to Jack), dogs, cats, ducks, goats, horses, and this year, kittens up in the tree. Apparently the mama cat thought that was a good place to protect her babies from coyotes and such. All the easter egg hunters used a ladder to take a peek.

Things to note about this year's hunt:

  1. Grandma Wanda was sick on the couch during dinner, but showed up at the hunt (yea!)
  2. Mom was sick at home through the whole day (that gave her a lot of time to post to this blog)
  3. Both Ryan and Maddi went to the "big kids" side of the field to hunt (the near field is for the little kids after all.)
  4. Collin Holyoak (Mike's cousin Robin's boy) found $20, and got 4 of our giant Hershy bars; Jack got the big bunny, and Maddi got nothing--NO FAIR.
