Jack's 6th birthday started with a bang. 2 bowls of Chocolate Marshmallow Toasties. YUM!
Ryan was with us at Wal-Mart when I told Jack he could pick out his birthday cereal.
Me: It can be anything you want, but not one of those giant size boxes. Ryan, you help him while Katie and I keep going. Hurry!
Then Katie and I headed to produce. Ryan and Jack showed up with a bag of Chocolate Marshmallow Toasties, at least as big as a bigger box, if not bigger.
Me: Ryan . . . (in a chiding, but slightly amused tone)
Ryan: Hey! You said not one of the big boxes, this is a small bag.
Right you are, and very clever, now, let's go . . . we need to hurry!
We're always in a hurry at the grocery store.
After breakfast, Jack, Katie and I made cake. Two round layers to sandwich a layer of Cookies and Cream ice cream.
I had many helpers for clean up time:

Jack,
I helped out in Jack's class that day. He selected sugar cookies for his treat. School treats can no longer be homemade. It's a little sad to eat store bought cookies, but it is easier on the mom.
After dinner, he opened presents. But was seriously concerned that he couldn't turn 6 until he had a party. All day that was an issue for him.
"We can't have the party until Saturday, Jack."
"Then it's not my birthday until Saturday."
"No, today is your birthday."
"Then why isn't it my party?"
Above, you can see Jack opening the card to Grandma Lynn and Grandpa Don's present which Katie had already done some opening on. She didn't quite understand that we were waiting to open presents. And it was completely beyond her understanding that it was Jack's present, so only Jack could open it.

Transformers are all the rage at 5-year old birthday parties this year.
Some silly time after opening presents. Maddie's lip wound is about 3 days old here.
Katie shows off Jack's new flip flops.
I am not proud of this, but to be historically accurate, I feel it has to be included:
After dinner and presents, we hurried off to Ryan's Little League game. It was cold and windy. The game didn't start until 7:30. We had all eaten too much sugar that day.
Very early in the game . . . .like the first 5 minutes . . .Katie and Jack started whining. They were cold . . . .they wanted to get candy from the snack shop . . . .they didn't like where we were sitting. . . . .they wanted to go over to the park . . . .whine, whine whine.
Very soon into the whining, I lost it: Gathered up our stuff and the two whiners, threw them into the van and headed home where they were sent to bed with no birthday cake. (GASP!) No birthday cake on your very own 6th birthday?!
The bright side is I didn't have to make another cake for the party.
On Saturday we had Jack's party. ("So now I'm really 6, Mom"). We had TWELVE 5 years olds at Fiesta Fun playing miniature golf on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.
It was very busy and that made for not a lot of pictures, but we kept everyone together and safe, so I was happy.

Jack's Feeling Groovey!
After miniature golf, we waked over to the neighboring park for cake, kickball and presents.
He blew out the candles, it's official: Jack is 6!
