The kids and I picked up and took off this week for one last hurrah before school starts. We headed to the closest place we could get a room in our timeshare, which ended up being Bison Ranch in eastern Arizona.
This was the only buffalo we saw on the "ranch."
We swam A LOT.
Katie learned she loves floaties and will no longer cling to me in the water.
Ryan perfected his "You Push Me and I'll Pull You Into the Water Trick."
Jack continued to improve his swimming skills.
And Maddie was great help with Katie.
We played some games: triominoes, skip bo, battle ship, phase 10.
We hiked.
As we were looking for the Mogollon Rim (why didn't I write down the desk clerk's directions?), we ended up here. The Hangman Trail looked promising (actually anything would have looked promising after our 20 minute drive on dirt roads where the only other signs were warnings about bears), so we headed out (with no food, in deference to the bear warnings.)
The above sign made the trail look even more interesting!
Some people had a great time hiking (Maddie and Jack thoroughly enjoyed using their sticks in the mud and fresh cow pies)...
...and some people didn't enjoy it so much. Like Katie after stepping in some mud
and Ryan, who was just generally bugged with all of us.
Oh Gross, Maddie!
Everybody liked lunch with brownies for dessert.
We played ping pong and video games at the hotel.
And we went out to dinner.
The biggest surprise of the trip was how yummy Pizza Time pizza was!
When we drove up to the building, I was a little afraid.
Notice the foil star garland framing the sign to the left, and the real plastic carnations in the center pots on the door way arch.
Don't worry; the red white and blue theme continued throughout the restaurant with wind socks and streamers hung from the ceiling and small American flags decorating the varied art work for sale on the walls (everything from southwestern sand art--think howling dogs, to garden variety water colors.) It was a true feast for the eyes.
Not as good as the pizza though which was FANTASTIC. I'd almost drive all the way back to eastern Arizona just for another slice. Almost.
After three days, it was time to go, so we hung our suits up to dry,
packed everything up, and snuggled in for one more good night's sleep.

What a great idea, to have one last 'fling' before school starts. I love the picture with the buffalo. It sounds (or looks) like you really had a fun time. That murphy bed sounds great. There's a lot of things I wish I could fold up into the wall. Blogs are so neat. I enjoyed your vacation right along with you. Grandma Leona Butler
Looks like great fun! And Katie and Jack have become great fish! Your kids are so cute! Wish you all lived closer! Auntie Yvonne
