A few weeks ago I ran a 5k.
I haven't run a 5k for a long time.
I told Dad you guys didn't need to come; it was a busy Saturday, and the race wasn't a big deal.
But then, as I approached the finish line, you were there; jumping and cheering and so excited to see me!
I was so excited to see you too!
After I finished, and found out I was 6th overall, and even won my age group,
you were so proud!
And just like that,
running wasn't something I did just for me anymore.
Yesterday, I ran another race. And it was an even busier Saturday: Dad was at a golf tournament, Ryan was at a basketball scrimmage, Jack was at a soccer game, and I had a race. So, Maddie and Katie stayed home.
This time I won!
It was pretty fun to win. But even as I ran down the straight away, and people were cheering for me, and they pulled the tape across the line for me to break (I don't think I've ever done that before!), I was so sad that you weren't there to see it.
Because you: Ryan, Maddie, Jack, Katie and Mike, are the 5 people who would have been even more excited than I was.
So, I'll keep running. And trying to win.
Because making you proud feels really, really good.

Congratulations! I'm proud too. We used to enjoy watching you in your cross country competitions. elb
I am so proud of you Em! Keep up the running, but remember to slow down your pace for me around Christmas ;)
Way to go Emily! Vontie
